In the month of "Sraavaan" (Marathi calender, roughly August/September in English Calender), the pattern of monsoon suddenly changes. The intermittent rains and sunshine poses great opertunities for the photographers and the avid wanderers. Ranges of Sahyadri change their makeup with beautiful green dress dotted with lovely colorful wildflowers. The nature lovers of the region, get confused due to sudden invitations from various wildflowers, birds, rain spectacles, magnificent waterfalls, misty rainforests from all across the western ghats. One such inviting place is the lateritic platue of Kaas. It is sensitive place which needs the protection.

The objects of desire brought by humans to Kaas Platue
The plastic and glass bottles spread all over the platue and some irresponsible driving pose threats to the delicate platue. Large number of tourists visit the place during the monsoon, particularly after August. The visitors include hobby photographers, general tourists, botanists and botany students. Most of the people visiting here are aware of the importance of the platue. However some of them pose great threat to the plants. Though the visitors help spreading the awareness of the biodiversity of the region, they also invite the unwanted attention causing destruction and commercialisation.

The serpentine road, which brings lot of trouble to Kaas platue.
The meadows between Satara and Kaas are very beautiful. The serpentine road runs over this platue for about 16 km before one reaches the Kaas lateritic platue. The platue is covered with clouds and fog, in Monsoon.
